“…apply for absolutely every realistic entry level opportunity that there is out there, because you never know who you will meet and where it will lead to, even if it is as little as making the director a cup of coffee and sweeping the floor.”
Since leaving Uni I have spent time gaining short term experience at different companies around the UK. I worked with companies local to the uni such asBlueprint Films and Darren Scales’ Backyard Productions, both of which were brilliant opportunities and helped me to learn a great deal about the industry.
While at university I felt it was important to concentrate on my work but also keep my ears down for job opportunities. This is really important in the 3rd year as in a few months you’re not a student any more and you want to get far in an industry relating to the course you’ve been doing for the last three years!
I currently work as a Technical Operator for Satellite Information Services, a company based in both Milton Keynes and MediaCityUK, who broadcast horse and dog racing to betting shops all around the world. They also have the largest outside broadcasting division in the country. Continue reading →
Yesterday we opened applications for Radio 1 & 1Xtra’s Take It On Trainee scheme.
We’re practicing what we preach with Take it On, by opening the doors of Radio 1 & 1Xtra’s new HQ and offering paid placements that give young people the opportunity to build experience and get involved in what we do at the networks. Four trainees will start with us on 8 week placements at the end of January and placements will then run across the year.
“We are an innovative disability project keen to develop the use of new technology with the children we work with, specifically I Pads or similar. However we work with children with complex disabilities and often limited communication. We want to look at Apps or methods to be able to more actively seek the views of children, and equally easy enough for a wide range of staff with various degrees of IT knowledge to use.” Job details.
Are you interested in volunteering overseas, and telling a story about it? Would you like to immerse yourself in another culture, contribute to international development, and make media about the experience?
International Citizen Service (ICS) is the UK’s leading global volunteering programme for people aged 18-25, bringing together young people from different countries to fight poverty. Over the next three years ICS will be sending 7,000 young people from the UK to over 28 of the world’s poorest countries to work alongside national volunteers for 10-12 weeks.
If you’re a recent graduate from a journalism or media course, and 25 or under, then you could apply for one of the upcoming placements, which are provisionally: January – March 2013 and April – June 2013.

Hi, my name is Abi Bremner, I graduated from the University of Lincoln in September 2011 with a first class honors degree in Media Production. I am currently living in Brisbane, Australia and wondered whether anyone from the School of Media has any contacts out here that they could put me in touch with.
I am currently looking for work experience and internships to develop my cv so that I can then begin applying for more senior roles and positions. Any feedback or advice would be greatly received as I really want to try and get sponsorship out here and in the long run apply for residency. Look forward to hearing from you, Abi Bremner
