2001 alumnus and indie filmmaker Nick Loven directed ‘Tell Them of Us’ by WAG Screen, which is a community filmmaking group. The film will be screened from this Saturday atThe Collection. The “film aims to breathe life into the cold stillness of a war memorial. It is the story of one Lincolnshire family during WW1.” In fact, it is based on a true story about the Crowder family from unpublished archive letters.
The film’s title comes from an epitaph written in 1916: When You Go Home, Tell Them Of Us And Say, For Their Tomorrow, We Gave Our Today.
I am currently researching and planning a WAG Screen short film to mark the outbreak of the First World War next year. After much deliberation we have chosen to tell the story of one Lincolnshire war memorial – that of Thimbleby near Horncastle. We have the support of the village and permission and encouragement from the families of the war dead and we will tell the story from the home front. We are working on raising funds for the film at the moment and also looking for cast – in particular two red-haired actors in their early twenties who could pass for brothers – quite a challenge! In organising the first ever Lincoln School of Media’s ‘Meet the Graduates’ event I have sourced a variety of content from our alumni – from graduation day photos and shots at work to interviews with us in the studio and on location. As part of my Masters [in digital media] I decided to experiment with convergence in some media technological areas I had not done before. After trying to squeeze a lot of practice into a short space of time here is my digital mash up to promote the AlumniFest on Wed 10 Nov 2010.
