It has been a fantastic experience to be part of a collaborative project between the LSM and MACE (Media Archive for Central England) because I could do what I love best and produce creative content. My industry passion is producing programmes on whatever platform, and this project was to promote the archives held at MACE into a DVD series. There are nine DVDs and each is based on a city in the Midlands. As part of the LSM teaching team, I had multicultural Leicester which can be traced back almost 2,000 years – thankfully the archives only dated back to the 1920s! Continue reading

I have just come across some great intern and training opportunities that Channel 4 are running:
“It’s who you know, not what you know” well, that’s true to a degree. It definitely helps getting your foot in the door if you know someone in the industry, but once you’re in you’ve got to prove your worthy of staying.
I was lucky enough to get onto Russell Crowe’s Robin Hood in 2009, sitting out in the middle of the woods come rain or shine, stopping passers by from getting into the back of shot and making numerous cups of tea for camera crew on set.
But being able to stand next to Ridley Scott whilst he discusses with the DOP what their next shot will be, was something I will never forget. Continue reading

Backyard Productions wins again!!!
“Never one to duck from the limelight Executive Bully Darren Scales received on behalf of Backyard Productions the 2012 North Kesteven Community Champion Award for Contribution to the Arts, for the Sc-Fi production The Drift!
The production was undertaken with volunteers from across the local community as well as undergraduates from the University of Lincoln. Produced and filmed over a period of 6 months, the top floor of the Airmens’ mess at RAF Waddington was transformed from a dining room into a film studio with spaceship sets , camera and wardrobe department. The production was also featured on local ITV news in February 2012.”

I know this is a tight turn around but there is a very exciting opportunity which has arisen with BBC DRAMA PRODUCTION NORTH on the 3 x 60 minute BBC THREE drama IN THE FLESH, a family drama looking at identity and discrimination but with a surprising genre twist. Deadline is Tuesday 2nd October at noon.
This is a fantastic chance to work out on location and oversee all aspects of a BBC drama production. The successful trainee will be based on set and main duties will include working alongside the assistant directors. Continue reading
Had a day of meetings and a uni catch up (With Staci Shuttleworth and Tamsin Nolan from my course) Always nice to catch up with the girlies and they’re both doing BRILLIANTLY in media. Staci has just been promoted to the head of scheduling team for channel 5 and Tamsin works either for sky sports or a sports channel/programmes like soccar am or something like that. Anyhoo!

I am still here at Interflora and work has been busy since I took my promotion for the role of Video Producer (from assistant) back in January. Focusing the brand video slightly more on editorial content (e.g. short documentaries about British grown flowers, wedding competitions and flower school) to managing, shooting, capturing the entire video element for the RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2012 – Probably the most stressful but extremely fun challenge I’ve had so far.
ERIKA BUTCHER graduated in 2011, with a Degree in Media Production and a prize for best student in a producer role.Erika, said in 2011
“I originally worked in a theatre, but moved over to admin to pay bills. I tried to get back into the creative side of things, but it was so difficult without prior film experience. I came to University to further my career.”
