Media Mentors | Industry & LSFM

Lincoln School of Film & Media (LSFM) is proud to have mentors who work in a range of media jobs. LSFM Mentoring with industry started as a pilot and has been running, developing, for three academic years. Our undergraduates apply, for 20 places, to have their own media mentor. LSFM said: Employability is at the heart of everything we do. Read LSFM’s student story from mentee Imogen Hayes. LSFM Mentoring is in collaboration with the University of Lincoln Careers & Employability team.

Mentors, many who are our graduates, kindly volunteer time from their busy schedules for LSFM Mentoring. Over summer we’ll check on our mentors availability for the new academic year 2018-19. Timely now to reflect on their massive contribution and say thank you. If you’d like to be a mentor, you can register your interest and details are here.  See a snapshot of some of our inspirational media mentors. Mentoring | Industry and LSFM, Lincoln School of Film & Media

LSFM Mentoring is a unique way to link industry with selected undergraduates. Thanks very much to volunteer mentors from the world of work who make time to support our final year or level 2 students in an academic year.  Each mentor brings their experience of the job market to help our students, during their course, as they plan goals and pursue passions for a career. In the past our mentors and mentees have explored everything from work opportunities to discussing dissertations. Pairs are in contact at least 6 times across semesters, so may be around 6-12 hours during the academic year. Contact time is flexible and pairs choose how to meet: face-to-face, talking on the phone, having a web chat or using other online platforms.

Mentors are offered an induction to mentoring, written guidelines and thereafter student-mentee liaises with mentor. Interested in being a media mentor? Then read the introduction and you can download the form to register your interest anytime: LSFM Mentoring_Introduction  |  LSFM_MENTOR_Registration-Form

Our industry mentors are freelancers to company directors and work across the media sector in animation; audio; communications; design; digital marketing; filmmaking; photography; radio; social media; teaching; technology; and TV. Continue reading

LSFM Mentoring | Industry engagement between alumni and students

LSFM_Wordpress-LOGOLincoln School of Film & Media Mentoring is a unique way for us to link industry with 20 of our undergraduates. Thanks to our mentors, they’re all our alumni from media & its related industries, AND LSFM students who applied to be mentees this year.

After a successful pilot launched at the start of 2014, our mentoring initiative will continue this academic year and is a collaboration between the School and the University of Lincoln Careers & Employability Service.  LSFM Mentoring between industry professionals and our undergraduates is part of our LSFM Network, which (as you may know) created this blog and started the School’s ‘Meet the Graduates’ alumni event (next gathering for graduates & students will be on 29 Oct) to name just a couple of things managed by the network. The LSFM has always been keen for our alumni to be part of our activities and events. LSFM Mentoring is another strand to enhance our link between industry and academia.  We’re looking forward to our media mentors and mentees sharing their experiences here! LSFM Mentoring is a developing project, so your thoughts and suggestions are welcome. You can read a student-mentee story from the pilot mentoring here.
