See some of our marvellous media mentors. Thanks to professionals who kindly volunteer their time from their busy work schedules to mentor a student from the University of Lincoln School of Film & Media. Commitment with a student-mentee is to have at least 6 contact times (either online or in person) across an academic year. If you’d like to be a mentor, details are here and register your interest any timeLSFM_MENTOR_Registration-Form.

20 mentors are required for LSFM Mentoring each new academic year, so we check who’ll be available from our mentors’ database. Here’s a snapshot of some of our mentors and we’re proud that many mentors are our alumni!

Alumni Network | Uni of Lincoln Graduate Reunion in London

UoL-AlumniNetworkWe love to connect with our graduates via our alumni networks. Today University of Lincoln (UK) Alumni will hold a graduates’ reunion in London (13th Dec 2017). There’ll be around 20 LSFM alumni attending from BA (Hons) Animation, BA (Hons) CLM/ Photography and BA (Hons) Media Production like YouTuber TomSka - Thomas Ridgewell, Class of 2011; Associate Producer at Nickelodeon Aimee Cleaver, Class of 2014; Freelance Assistant Producer Phil Krstic, Class of 2012; Content Producer for CBeebies Rosie Turner, Class of 2015; and Senior BBC TV Director James Waddell, Class of 2000 who said he was offered two jobs when he graduated:

James WaddellThe first offer came during a meeting with the head of CITV in London. I had interviewed him for my dissertation and wanted to let him know that I had received a first and to also thank him for his involvement. In an email he had mentioned “if you are ever in London…” well I took that literally and went to see him! At the end our our chat he offered me a role as an assistant cameraman on a new series.  I actually turned this job down and took a job at Sky as I thought this role would give me more experience during the long term. Within 6 months I was trained to be a vision mixer, a route I knew to being a director.  Continue reading

Rosie Turner, Class of 2015 | BBC CBeebies Content Producer

RosieTurner-WebsiteHello! I’m Rosie and I graduated in 2015 with a BA (Hons) in Media Production. I work for BBC Worldwide, the commercial arm of the BBC as a Content Producer for CBeebies. My role involves managing the social media for pre school shows Hey Duggee, Go Jetters and Sarah & Duck. As an online producer my role could be anything from coming up with new ideas for videos to promote magazines and toys to collaborating with the Children’s department in Manchester, attending brand partner meetings and even researching Christmas cakes designs!

I’m really excited to have joined the BBC after working for 18 months at a social media agency in East London on projects for Red Bull, MTV and CBBC. This role has allowed me to use the skills I’ve already gained in Children’s television to create exciting and inspirational content for families, parents/guardians and teachers! In my last year of university I wrote my dissertation on ‘Bringing The Children Out To Play’ a study on the relationship between Children’s online/broadcast media and the outdoors. I love spending time in nature and in my spare time I’ve been working on my own project called ‘The Urban Backpacker.’ Continue reading

Tom Nicholls, LSFM | University of Lincoln Alumni Event, London

TomNicholls-Charlotte Cummins+Rosie Turner-alumnieventI recently attended the University of Lincoln alumni event at the National Liberal Club in London. I must admit to some anxiety as to whether I would recognise alumni from years ago. No problem, Charlotte Cummins – Class of 2006, Media Production (pictured on the left) – recognised me first and though I could not remember her name immediately, I did remember teaching her.

The event was kicked off by a speech by Mary Stuart, Vice-Chancellor welcoming us all and mentioning Rosie Turner – Class of 2015, Media Production (pictured on the right with Charlotte) – as one of the most recent alumni present.

This was followed by a brief description of his post-Lincoln career by Sebastian Cox (BA Furniture 2009, MA Design 2011). Sebastian started a furniture business in rural Lincolnshire on graduating and has now moved to London with a staff of 5.

Once I had gathered together the LSFM 4. We talked about Lincoln then and now. Continue reading

Rosie Turner, Class of 2015 | Work-life since leaving Lincoln

RosieTurner_2015GradSince leaving Lincoln and heading down to London, these past few months have been unbelievably busy! At the moment I have just taken on a contract as an Assistant Producer with Social Life, a social media agency based in London, founded by Ex Radio 1 social leads. Our clients include MTV UK, X Factor, First Dates, CBBC and Red Bull Media to name a few. My role involves a bit of everything as we are a start-up business! My average week will consist of meetings with clients, developing social media strategies, video editing, photography, planning the filming of gigs with our music clients, organising schedules for the press launches of TV shows and booking locations for events!

I progressed to the role after finishing my trainee scheme at Channel 4 as a freelance Social Networker alongside my degree. Continue reading
