Lincoln School of Film & Media’s Audio Production Year 2 undergraduate Clem Cousins shared her post about a radio visit with her fellow students last month: I went on a trip to look around Absolute Radio, BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio 1Xtra. As soon as we made our way off the coach, we walked over to Absolute Radio. We were greeted in reception and were shown upstairs to a room for a talk with Chris, Eloise and Kevin.I thoroughly enjoyed hearing about how they first started out in the industry and the different job roles they had before coming to Absolute Radio.
Afterwards, we were split into two groups and given a tour around the building. It was amazing seeing all of the studios.Continue reading →
From the 8th June until 12th June I received a brilliant opportunity to work at an independent radio production company called Whistledown Productions. The indie produce weekly programmes for BBC Radio 4 including Feedback, BBC World Service’s Over to You as well as several documentaries on BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 2, BBC Radio 3 and BBC Radio 4. Whistledown have won a variety of awards for their work including a Sony Award in 2003 and Indie of the Year at the Radio Production Awards 2014.
I undertook several jobs at the company which included learning how to use SADiE which is a piece of editing software that the BBC use and is a very important programme to learn if you want to create programmes for the BBC. Continue reading →
Today’sHEADSPACE was LSFM’s on-campus industry event organised by Senior LecturerZara Healy. Our Visiting Professor Trevor Dann opened the day. He introduced industry guests, who were primarily our alumni and BBC Radio Lincolnshire’s Managing Editor Charlie Partridge. This was a fantastic opportunity for our students to gain an insight into the range of employment after graduation. Work can be in many forms as our graduates shared why they started their own media businesses; how to leap from local radio into local telly as well as network TV; and doing forms of digital media to pursue their passions. Here are some moments captured at Headspace 2015 – networking and socialising.

This is a video update on ‘Headspace‘, the Lincoln School of Media’s radio and audio social networking event. It was successfully organised by Senior Lecturer Zara Healy back in April. The idea was connecting like-minded people on-campus. The networking was between LSM students and industry professionals – some our alumni – from presenters to podcasters. Headspace achieved its aim by providing a great opportunity for 100 participants to chat about any aspect of careers and to build new contacts. This videowas created courtesy of two LSM media production students Rory McCarney and Scott Williams at New Media Lincs Social Enterprise.
Post from 2012 Audio Production Alumnus Simon Ross.
Last time I wrote a post for the LSM blog I had pretty much just started life with the BBC. Almost 2 years down the line, I am now typing from a brand new studio desk at BBC Radio Lincolnshire at the end of what has been a very busy few months.
My regular duties are working as a Broadcast Assistant at weekends, covering the on-air broadcast of programmes on both Saturday and Sunday mornings. I will also find myself covering other programmes during the week, including Mid Morning, Afternoon and Drivetime. So what has changed?Continue reading →
