Perseverance Pays off for Promising Producer Graduate

ERIKA BUTCHER graduated in 2011, with a Degree in Media Production and a prize for best student in a producer role.

Erika, said in 2011
“I originally worked in a theatre, but moved over to admin to pay bills. I tried to get back into the creative side of things, but it was so difficult without prior film experience. I came to University to further my career.”

You can see one of her final year films “Off the Beaten Track” here

Since then she has been trying hard to find full time work in the Media sector. She took on anything that came her way to begin with; keeping in touch with fellow graduates and working for amongst other people, Urban Apache/Red Dog FIlms, both Lincoln based production companies formed by ex-School of Media graduates.

Erika was also an intern during her final year on the Kickstart programme (in conjunction with EM Media)

Recently I received an email from her with some good news that she in her own words is finally a producer!.

In the last month my life has totally turned round, I am currently on the way back from filming the UK jewellery awards at the Grosvenor Hotel Park Lane. I got a job as Associate Writer Producer for QVC. Although shopping channels are frowned at by some people this is probably the best one to work for. I write an produce 30 promos a wk, and my footage hits the tv the following week.

She is pleased to have found a job which has sane working hours and through being able to take up last minute projects seems to be doing very well.

…before I new it I was skipping across London to meet my camera man. I guess I’m a professional producer now!
I’m not sure I will work here for ever but its sure going to get my career back on track and will look amazing on my cv.

We wish her all the best and have asked her to keep us posted.
